Shannon de Winnaar
Head of School
Mrs. Shannon is a South African born Australian who has been living in Singapore for 4 years. She has a Bachelor of Education with a major in Mathematics from Notre Dame University, Australia. Mrs. Shannon holds a certificate in Leadership and Management from the University of Melbourne. She has experience working with Australian, British, American, and International Baccalaureate curricula, in Western Australia, London, and Singapore.
Mrs. Shannon believes working in education is a privilege and she feels fortunate to have it both as a career and a part of her everyday life. Mrs. Shannon has a strong desire to develop student potential through hands-on, inquiry teaching, and learning strategies. She strives to create a school where children feel safe to share their ideas, that supports risk-taking and encourages children to have a go.
Mrs. Joanne comes from Greater Manchester and has been living in Singapore for a short time. She is an Early Years Specialist with experience teaching in Shanghai and London. Her qualifications and experience are particularly well suited to the child-centered ethos and inquiry-based curriculum that RISS embraces.
Joanne has experience in applying a child-centered ethos over the past seven years to children across a variety of settings, from preschools to all-through schools, and with families from diverse backgrounds.
Aside from teaching, Mrs. Joanne has a passion for traveling, and she enjoys documenting her journeys via pictures, videos, and blogs. She enjoys listening to music, attending dance classes, and watching comedy shows. Mrs. Joanne is also an aspiring cook.
Mrs. Zanell comes from South Africa and has been living in Singapore for one year. She currently holds a Bachelor of Law as well as a post-graduate certificate in education. Mrs. Zanell's love for education grew when she got the opportunity to teach students from diverse backgrounds in Shanghai. She has teaching experience in Shanghai and Singapore and looks forward to growing with RISS.
Mrs. Zanell has a passion for helping students achieve their goals by building their confidence and instilling a growth mindset. It is her goal to ensure every student feels a sense of belonging and is equipped with the necessary tools to develop their knowledge and enjoyment for education.
Aside from teaching, Mrs. Zanell loves being active, traveling, and spending time with friends.
Miss. Tulsinder is Singaporean. She has a Bachelor of Education from James Cook University Australia, Singapore campus as well as a Diploma in Business and Law and a certificate in Management Foundation Studies. Miss. Tulsinder has been working in education for some time as a childcare assistant, teacher assistant, tutor, intern teacher, and homeroom teacher. She values creating an inquiry-based classroom that develops critical thinking skills, knowledge, and a range of skills within an environment based on trust and respect.
Outside of school, Miss. Tulsinder enjoys spending time with her family, reading, cycling, doing crafts, traveling, going for beach walks and baking
Ms. Leanne has a BA (Honours) majoring in English Literature and Art History with a teaching qualification in Speech and Drama (NZ Speech Board and Trinity College London) and a CELTA certificate in teaching English as a second language. She has several years of experience working as an ESL instructor in Japan and Singapore.
Ms. Leanne is also trained in photography and owns her own photography business. She enjoys exploring Singapore in search of the best coffee, traveling, photography and the arts.
Perema d/o Mannan Bedayan
Student Support Assistant
Mrs. Perema has a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and an Advanced Diploma in Early Intervention Programme. She has a huge amount of experience working in education as a teacher and learning support educator.
Outside school hours Mrs. Perema tutors students from 3 years old to 10 years old (mainstream and special needs students). She works on academic subjects; English, maths, and science. Also handwriting skills and social, emotional, and behavior management sessions. Mrs. Perema enjoys watching movies, window shopping, and volunteering at old age homes with her family twice a month.
Student Support Assistant
Mrs. Karolina has a master’s degree in Pedagogy specializing in Revalidation (advanced clinical theory of specific needs) and a Diploma in Child Care and Playwork. She has a vast career working in education in special needs support, teacher assistant, supervisor, and co-ordinator for extended services roles.
Mrs. Karolina loves traveling to see other countries to learn about other cultures and helping local communities, reading, and exercising especially yoga. She enjoys baking as well.
Parent Communication Officer
Mrs. Catalina is Moldovian and has been living in Singapore for 7 years. She has a bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Classic and Modern Languages and a Master’s in International Tourism and Hotel Management. Mrs. Catalina has a lot of experience working in administration and guest relations in hotels and teaching and private tutoring in English and French.
In her spare time, Mrs. Catalina likes to ride a bicycle with her two sons and explore nature. At home, she loves cooking delicious and healthy foods while her boys enjoy devouring it. Mrs. Catalina is passionate as well about Argentine Tango and traveling.
